Sun Microsystems Fosters Open Innovation at Sun Tech Days 2008

First Sun Learning Centre launched in Hyderabad


Hyderabad– February 27, 2008: Reiterating its commitment to the Indian developer community and open source, Sun Microsystems India rolled out the 7th edition of its Sun Tech Days developer conference in India at the Hyderabad International Convention Center, with supporting sessions in Bangalore and Chennai.
 
Focusing primarily on open source projects and communities and revolving around the theme of ‘Open Opportunities’, Sun Tech Days 2008 has 16 tracks and 70 sessions across the three-day event. During the conference, Sun technology leaders and evangelists will deliver technical presentations on topics including: Enterprise Computing, Open Source Development Methodologies, Mobility and Wireless, Security, Performance Tuning, Next Generation Advances in Web Services and Developer Tools and Productivity.
 
The three-day event began with a keynote address delivered by Rich Green, executive vice president, Software, Sun Microsystems titled “The Platforms That Power The Network Economy”. In his keynote presentation, Rich Green highlighted the growth of the network economy in India, the evolving application development space and encouraged the developer community to innovate more through open source communities. He also highlighted recent developments at Sun including announcements to acquire MySQL and Innotek.
 
Delivering the keynote address Mr. Rich Green, executive vice president, Software, Sun Microsystems said, “Developers are the backbone of software development and open communities; they create new possibilities, inspire thought and drive innovation. Open source is all about participation and as an organization, which bases its business model on open source, Sun strongly believes that sharing and collaborating with the developer community is the key to building opportunities.
 
This is my second visit to Hyderabad and Sun Tech Days in India and I have been bowled over, not just by the magnitude and scale of the event but also by the creativity, passion and the knowledge levels of this vibrant community.”
 
Over the last few years Sun’s developer population in India has grown rapidly to 652,610 developers, becoming the largest developer community for Sun worldwide. Sun Tech Days highlights the need for Indian developers to move to the next level by collaborating, contributing and competing on global technology platforms.
 
Revolving around the theme of “Open Opportunities” the sessions for this year’s event covered technologies such as JavaFX(TM), JRuby, Java(TM) Platform Enterprise Edition (Java EE), GlassFish(TM) project, NetBeans(TM) Integrated Development Environment (IDE), Java Platform Standard Edition (Java SE), OpenJDK(TM), Java Platform Micro Edition (Java ME), OpenSolaris(TM), SOA using OpenESB and Sun Java Composite Application Platform Suite (Java CAPS).
 
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Ian Murdock, vice president, Developer and Community Marketing, Sun Microsystems said, “Sun is the world's largest contributor to the Open Source community. Sun’s open source model offers developers and end users the opportunity to collaborate and build upon the best of the commons. Sun Tech Days will create a participatory environment for developers to learn about Sun technologies and Sun sponsored open source communities”

Supported by Oracle, AMD, Intel, Ericcson, Nokia, CollabNet, Sybase, Accenture, Webex, Parasoft amongst others, the three-day event provides a platform for the developer and academic community to participate in communities changing the face of technology, share knowledge, build up their skills and advance their career in the Web 2.0 world.
 
Sun Learning Centre
Sun Learning Services, a division of Sun Microsystems India also announced the launch of its first Learning Centre in Hyderabad. Situated in Ameerpet, the centre will offer instructor-led classroom training. With special Sun Authorized Instructors who are technical experts delivering lectures and hands-on experiences, the center aims at empowering the workforce on prevalent technologies and the needs of the future. The learning centre will offer training in Java software and XML technologies, Identity Management, Solaris OS coursers, Sun Java Composite Application suite (Java CAPS), Servers and High Availability, Storage and Sun Hardware systems
