Sun Microsystems Empowers Developers in India at Sun Tech Days 2009Drives Next generation Technology Innovation through Open Source , Zembly and Java FX Hyderabad, February 18, 2009 - The 8th edition of Sun Tech Days, Sun Microsystems’ annual developer conference kicked off to a great start today at the Hyderabad International Convention Center, supported by sessions in Pune and Chennai. Revolving around the theme of “Empowering You”, Sun’s premier global developer conference this year focuses on fostering "Innovation, Collaboration, and Integration," among the vibrant developer population in India. Supported by 60 sessions , Sun Tech Days 2009 focuses heavily on technologies around social computing, cloud computing, OpenSolaris and Java. The highlight of this year’s event will revolve around interesting demos and sessions on two of the hottest technologies in the world today- Zembly (used to build social networking applications) and Java FX ( to build Rich Internet Applications). JavaFX combines the best capabilities of the Java platform with comprehensive, immersive media functionality into an intuitive and comprehensive, one-stop development environment. Zembly is a browser-based development environment from Sun that enables social programming of applications for Facebook, Meebo, OpenSocial, iPhone web applications, and other social platforms, as well as web widgets. Cloud computing, the much talked about trend for 2009 will also be addressed at the conference. Sun will share its vision for the role developer communities around the world will play in the cloud ecosystem. The three-day event began with a keynote address delivered by James Gosling, Sun Vice President and Sun fellow, titled 'Java- Where We're Heading'. In his keynote presentation, Gosling reiterated the ubiquitousness of Java and the numerous ways this technology touches daily life. His presentation also highlighted the newly releases JavaFX Mobile, a new platform that delivers rich content and services to mobile phones and devices, through several interesting demonstrations. Delivering the keynote address, James Gosling, Vice President and Sun fellow said, “Breaking down the technological, social, and economic barriers that have conspired to constrain innovation and access is a challenge that Sun readily embraces. When we talk about enabling participation on the network, we are not just talking about helping people get online. We are talking about creating the technologies that allow people to access the tools they need so they can participate. One of the most powerful examples of how sharing and community building can change the world is found in Java technology and its developer community. Today, the Java IT community is the largest and most active on the planet. There are more than 6.5 million developers, architects, and programmers around the world, and thousands of Web sites. Java technology powers more than 4.5 billion devices — from cell phones, PDAs, and smart cards to game consoles, set-top boxes, printers, and more. And then there's the Java Community Process, an all-inclusive community of more than 1,130 members who have helped shape the direction of the Java platform.” “The Java platform has always provided many opportunities and new possibilities, but with the move to open source Sun has radically accelerated the rate of innovation and created greater and broader value to the platform. With these advancements, Java technology is set to take center stage in a new era that connects everything and everyone worldwide. Individuals are fueling demand for new types of applications, data and interactions focused on the consumer market. The Java platform is quickly evolving to power this new generation of applications and bring along the superior compatibility, flexibility and security capabilities that we have all come to expect as intrinsic values of Java technology”, he further added. Based on the feedback from the developers around the world the sessions have been loaded with technical content, practical "how to" information, examples of real-world solutions, tips on application performance tuning, hands-on training and more. Participants will experience the latest technology in action, network with their peers and participate in communities, which are changing the face of technology. “The developer community in India has a lot of opportunities and potential to innovate and shape tomorrow’s success stories in the technology industry As part of its global developer programs, Sun India supports and engages with over half of the country’s developer population (7,80,000 developers) through on ground programs and activities such as Sun Tech Days and other developer events held annually. As one of the largest technology outreach and evangelism events in India, Sun Tech Days 2009 provides thousands of developers in India opportunities to hone their skills in popular technological platforms, upgrade to next generation of technologies and turn those learnings into real value for themselves and the community”, said Anil Valluri, Vice President and Managing Director- India GEM, Sun Microsystems About Sun Tech Days About Sun Microsystems, Inc.
