Tata Teleservices Ltd. (TTSL), one of India's largest telecom operators, through their outsourcing partner Tata Consultancy Services, selected Sun systems to meet the demands of its subscription base -- 21 million strong -- and growing rapidly -- and increase storage capacity. Based on Sun's proven strength in RISC and Unix environments at TTSL, the company opted to deploy Sun x64 and UltraSPARC servers, a Sun Storage-Attached Network (SAN) system, as well as and the Solaris Operating System. Sun Services was also engaged for support and to assist with implementation. The Sun solution will allow Tata to achieve at least 30--40% savings in storage costs, with even greater savings possible if virtualization is implemented.
